But the Falcons lost three of their top five runners from that team and started a bit slowly this fall. The Falcons placed five runners in the top 21, and No. Dulaney has been one of Severna Park's biggest Class 4A rivals the past few years.
The Falcons beat the Lions by just seven points in this meet last year before improving as the season went on and topping Dulaney by 42 in the Class 4A state title run — also at Hereford. In this race, Severna Park did better at staying in a pack and placed all five of its scoring runners in that top 21 to finish with 57 points and beat Dulaney by three.
Eric Walz of Dulaney won the race in 15 minutes, Forsyth and Tucker are the lone two remaining scorers from last year's championship team and are helping anchor this year's squad, which is starting to look more like the Severna Park of recent seasons.
We work extremely hard — it's just taking a little while. In fact, Elijiah Hawkins took 11th but the Lions didn't get another finisher until 35th place, a key reason Dulaney finished second.
