An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works. [Collab with Hugs6] #Octachel Octavian survives the explosion and is . Rachel and Octavian met when they were five, the have been best friends ever since. Percy first meets Rachel at the Hoover Dam, where he mistakes the sound of her . While Rachel is able to convince Reyna, Octavian uses the opportunity to.
The Amazons arrive to help Camp Jupiter which overjoys Reyna. Once the battle is over, Percy is lifted into the air as the other campers chant "praetor," including Reyna who grasps his hand in congratulations. During the party to celebrate their victory, Reyna makes a speech welcoming the Amazons and gave her sister a big hug.
She then congratulated Percy for becoming a praetor of the Twelfth Legion and gives him a purple toga and medal before removing his probatio neck plate and motions for Octavian to give Percy his SPQR tattoo. The next day when Percy goes to tell the Senate about the Greek demigods arriving, Octavian wants to blast them out of the sky while Percy says they mean no harm. Reyna takes the middle ground and says she will allow them to land, but she tells everyone to stay on their guard in case it is a trick.

While talking and explaining their sides of the story Jason talking about the quest to free Hera and Percy talking about his quest to free ThanatosReyna quickly discovers Jason and Piper's relationship, which Annabeth can tell made her very upset, but didn't show it.
After Reyna allows Jason and Piper to tour the city, Reyna will not allow Percy to do the same with Annabeth, as she wants to talk to Annabeth Chase alone first. While she stops at one of the shops for some hot chocolate, she explains to Annabeth that Minerva takes her vow of chastity very seriously, not even having demigod children at all, unlike Athena. She also asks her if she understood how Athena changes, which Annabeth never considered. So even if the goddess did have Roman children, they would be artists or advisers.
Reyna eventually takes Annabeth to her favorite spot in the city, the Garden of Bacchus. Here, Reyna asks to hear her side of the story to see if she can trust them or not.
Annabeth told Reyna how she grew up, meeting Luke and Thalia Graceher quests at Camp Half-Bloodand even about the camp itself, all of which Reyna listened to. When Annabeth was finished, Reyna pointed to the shrine of Bellona and explained how when the Romans are at war, they place a spear in the plot of ground inside.
Whenever the Romans felt threatened, they would invade anyone around them, including the Greeks. Annabeth tells her that it doesn't have to be that way and the two camps can work together, which Reyna would like as well, but has her doubts. She also gives Annabeth a warning, as she once before met a child of Athena who went to Rome on a quest.
She remembered that he had washed up on Circe's Island in a crazed state. He talked about a Mark of Athena and a failed quest in Rome before Circe turned him into a guinea pig.
While Reyna didn't know what it meant at the time, after hearing a prophecy by Ella earlier, she feels that it is somehow connected to an old legend passed down at Camp Jupiter involving Athena. Before she can explain more, an explosion erupts in the forum where they were eating and Annabeth believes the giants are attacking again.
Reyna however saw the shot being fired from the Argo II and thinks that the Greeks have betrayed them. Annabeth claims they haven't and is proven true when her dogs don't attack her. Reyna is still angry and feels that at least one of the crew members of the Argo II is a traitor. They both run back together to try and stop any bloodshed that could be caused by the fighting. After the legionnaires marched on the crew of the Argo II, Reyna ran toward them with her dogs.
After escaping, Octavian began to work the Legion into a frenzy and went on a war path against the Greeks with Reyna powerless to stop him. If she tried and stand in his way, he would claim she had gone soft. It's something friends do. I've never even seen you so much as falter around anyone. When did you ever have a crush?
He was being chased by these assassin-type things. I blew my nose behind him and he almost killed me. I helped him get away. Half a year later, I saw him at my high school orientation. We ended up getting trapped by a couple cheerleaders.
He killed one and escaped out a hole in the wall. The next time I saw him, I led him and some others through deadly tunnels underground. After that we became good friends, and at the end of the next summer, I kissed him. But really, it was just his world that was luring me in.
The creatures I saved him from were monsters; the cheerleaders were empousi; the tunnels were part of the Labyrinth. And it's because I met him that I became the Oracle of Delphi. If I'd never met him, I wouldn't be here now. You'd be stuck with Octavian. It's not like that.
I don't think I feel something; I hardly know him. But… would it be so bad? I know my future, but is it so bad to want something normal? The fate of two camps rests on your shoulders, however heavy that fate may be. You're not just a legacy of Apollo; you're fated to become the next augur and the next Oracle of Delphi. You must remain a virgin; you know this. What if I find someone, someone I really like and who likes me?
Yeah, maybe I'll never have children of my own, but that doesn't mean I can't adopt. I mean, look at you, you don't have kids but you're still a mother. I'm not a Hunter of Artemis, I'm not sworn off men. I can still get married. Instead, Rachel put a hand under the legacy's chin and nudged it so the girl looked at her. Any boy would be lucky to have you for himself. You were right; I am a mother. I'm your mother, and I will never let you suffer when there's something I can do.
Now, let's see that pretty smile. Before she got out of the Jeep, Rachel grabbed her wrist. It's the strong who remain, the bent but unbroken, like the iron rods that used to give this concrete its strength. Rachel tells the Romans that Ellathe harpyhas read the Sibylline Books. Afterword, Octavian yells about how the Greeks always lie and that they "stole" the harpy. Reyna states that she will go to Greece to retrieve the Athena Parthenos.
Octavian tells her that it's insanity and that the augur is in charge while she is gone. Once Reyna leaves, he tells the rest of the Roman officers that the legion is changing their plans. He is then seen at the Roman base camp recruiting monsters and exiled legionnaires to attack Camp Half-Bloodpreparing many onagers obtained from the financial support of god-emperor Nero and the Triumvirate Holdings. He tried to start the invasion but was stopped by the Greek forces. Reyna then returned the Athena Parthenos moments before Gaea awakes at the camp.
He attempts to fire an onager at Gaea but, unknown to him, his cape was caught in it. He is then confronted by Will Solace and Nico di Angelo who try to convince him not to fire. He says Apollo spoke to him, telling him that he would save Camp Jupiter. Michael Kahale then comes to him and guards Octavian. The Augur then fires, setting him on fire, flying towards Gaea and Leo Valdezshrieking in horror and dying on impact.
According to Leo, he heard a comet screaming like a little girl flying towards him, to his surprise and confusion. Despite the madness of his actions, Octavian was hailed as a hero, as his attack may have helped permanently defeat Gaea. However, the Seven are left wondering if it just killed Leo instead with Nico feeling particularly guilty, as he didn't prevent Octavian's deathwhich it did. Though fortunately for Leo, Festus managed to resurrect Leo by injected him with the Physician's Cure shortly thereafter.

The Hidden Oracle Apollo mentions him when he was first cast down from Olympus as a human, the god blames Octavian for this. Rachel Elizabeth Dare discovered that the Triumvirate Holdings were the ones who supplied Octavian with those siege weapons, Apollo recalls that he dealt with the last triumvirate that included his son, the original Octavian.
After the death of Caesar Augustus, whom Apollo was proud of, his descendants became increasingly arrogant and unstable. Personality Apollohis ancestor.
Octavian was a stoically arrogant, condescending Machiavellian individual of unprecedented ruthlessness and self-righteousness. He was extremely ambitious and power-hungry, willing to use any heinous means, from extortion to manipulation, in order to achieve his goals.
Unfortunately for any who might've crossed words with him, Octavian was highly intelligent, callous, cunning, manipulative and charismatic, the perfect orator.
He is portrayed as a potential threat if one became enemies with him, as Percy said, though the latter didn't seem to care. However, Octavian seemed to want to protect the camp and advocates a conservative approach when it comes to its affairs. He considered the Greek demigods to be enemies due to the ancient rivalry between Greece and Romeand therefore, was very hostile towards Percy and the ideas he brought of truce with the Greek demigods aboard the Argo II.
Most of the time he was able to insult others discretely, which was how he was occasionally able to win favor in the council, even over Reyna herself. Octavian was also shown to be sadistic, as he did his best to painfully burn Percy when giving him his SPQR tattoo.
Hence, Octavian seemed to value sadism and cruelty in others too, since he was quick to ally himself with the infamously brutal Bryce Lawrenceand also wanted Nico di Angelo as an ally, since he claimed to see a decent amount of ruthlessness in the son of Hades, which Octavian greatly appreciated.
In The Blood of OlympusOctavian is shown as narrow-minded, arrogant, and downright foolish, as even the gods mainly Apollo condemn him and his actions. He disobeys Reyna's orders and recruits disloyal mercenaries and demigods of doubtful characters.
Even when the Greeks try to reason with him, Octavian refuses to listen.
