I just love the ending of From Beyond, with her laughing. .. is so tightly made and with such a great central relationship to draw from that it just peaks over Hellbound. The movie ends with Kirsty and Tiffany leaving the now unoccupied hospital. Two men are removing what remains in the doctor's house and one of the movers. But "Hellbound: Hellraiser II" contains the kinds of nightmares that occur The movie begins a few hours after the original "Hellbound" ended.

Channard kidnaps Tiffany and he and Julia use her as a proxy to unlock the Lament Configuration puzzle box and enter the world of Pinhead and the Cenobites. Here it is learned that the act of opening the Lament Configuration is not in and of itself reason to be targeted by the Cenobites.

As Pinhead states, stopping his fellow Cenobites from attacking Tiffany, it is "not hands that call [them], but desire. When Kirsty enters Channard's office, she finds the box Tiffany had used and frantically tries to return it to its normal configuration. The Cenobites find her, Pinhead seizing the opportunity to change the box to a more complex configuration and lock open the doors to the labyrinth. Pinhead tells Kirsty she is free to explore the maze but they'll be waiting to capture and torture her.

Channard and Julia enter the Labyrinth of Hell which is run by the god Leviathan, who dwells in the shape of a gigantic, elongated diamond rotating in space above the labyrinth and emanating black beams which make Channard remember some of the atrocities he has committed.

Julia calls Leviathan the "god of flesh, hunger, and desire Kirsty ventures into the Cenobites' domain and encounters Frank Cotton.

He reveals that he is condemned to Hell, and that his punishment is to be teased and seduced by writhing female figures on beds that withdraw into the walls, depriving him of any pleasure. He also reveals that he tricked her by pretending to be her father to lure her into Hell so that he can use her for his own pleasures.

At this point, Julia appears and destroys Frank in revenge for killing her. Kirsty and Tiffany encounter Pinhead and the other Cenobites. Kirsty shows Pinhead a photograph of him that she took from Channard's study, and he gradually remembers that he was human, as the other Cenobites also remember they were human.

Many major elements remain unchanged from the shooting script, but the Barbie and CD Cenobites do not exist. Subsequent rewrites introduced the CD and Barbie Cenobites, Pinhead's deception as Joey's father, and a happier ending. The setting was made unambiguously American, ending the first two films' tradition of mixing British and American elements.

Lost in Timesuggested him. Barker, who disliked Hickox's prior work, believed him a poor fit for the Hellraiser series, as Hickox was known for horror comedy films. When Hickox met with him, Barker stressed that he expected Hickox to take the material seriously. Hickox, a fan of the series, agreed and used the first two films as a guide for the proper tone. Hickox said he found the casting process for a Hellraiser film both exciting and frightening.

The first to be cast was Terry Farrell, who was returning to a career in acting after a break. Hickox had previously sought her for a role in Waxwork II, but, when that become impossible because of a scheduling clash, he promised to cast her in his next project. Kevin Bernhardt, who had appeared as a series regular on General Hospitalwas cast as J. The role of Monroe's girlfriend, Terri, went to Paula Marshall, who Hickox said was a critical casting choice, as the film rested on the performances of Marshall, Ferrell, and Bradley.

Atkins himself took the role of the barman and the subsequent Barbie Cenobite, and several other crew members, including Kuppin and producer Lawrence Mortorff, took cameo roles. Smaller roles were filled with friends-of-friends, local actors, and people who had appeared in prior genre filmsincluding Hickox's Waxwork series. Hickox brought many crew members from his previous films, including cinematographer Gerry Livelywho worked with Hickox on Waxwork II.

Bob Keen from special effects company Image Animation was one of the few returning crew members from previous Hellraiser films. Keen had also previously worked on Nightbreed and the Waxwork films.

Tunnicliffewho would become a writer and director in later Hellraiser films, joined the film's make-up crew and created the Lament Configuration boxes. Paul Jones replaced Geoff Portass as make-up coordinator.

Hickox had previously established a very fast shooting schedule that used long hours, which meant the Hellraiser III cast had to adjust to his unorthodox style and the studio's demands. Bradley said that he worked for seventeen hours straight one day, and the large number of scenes shot daily meant they had little time to perfect them.

Hickox's preference for in-camera editing sped up production but limited the actors' view of how the completed film would look. They instead had to depend on storyboards. This movie's just getting started, really.

It all goes downhill from here and there's no way I can do justice to how bad it get using only words. It's THE horror movie your parents didn't want you to watch when you were a kid.

Movie Review : Hellbound - Hellraiser II () — Dead End Follies

To be fair, if I had watched this film before turning thirteen I would probably be institutionalized by now. This sequel wasn't directed or written by franchise creator and iconic horror author Clive Barkerso it doesn't even try to be nuanced and sophisticated like the original.

It borrows many themes from Lovecraft in fact: The ridiculous relationship between Dr. Channard and Julia also reminded me of Roger Corman movies, who never let narrative hurdles such as realism and common sense get in the way of freaking you out. Think you know this old trick? There are many direct references to hell in this movie. It relies a lot more on embedded Judeo-Christian fears to terrify the audience.
